By Eli James. E-Newsletter #1, June 9, 2004. Will There Be a Judgment Day? Among the numerous Judeo-Christian heresies that plague our civilization, Universalism is probably the most popular. It is popular precisely because it is a form of "Christianity Lite." Even though it tastes sweet, it has few calories and it requires no responsibility. It doesn't even require knowledge of the Scriptures. All it requires is a particular form of "faith" which believes that all people, no matter how badly they have sinned against God's Holy Law, will be "saved." Despite the Bible's clear warnings about the Judgment Day, Universalism teaches that we have nothing to worry about. God is not an anthropocentric concept which is capable of anger, they say. That is a childish belief! That is merely imputing to God human emotions which are beneath His dignity!! Yet, the Bible clearly tells us that He has often been angry with us and that His anger will be especially severe as the Judgment Day approaches. "For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God. When you beget children and children's children, and have grown old in the land, if you act corruptly by making a graven image in the form of anything, and by doing what is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, so as to provoke Him to anger, I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day." -- Deuteronomy, 4:24, 25. "From His mouth issues a sharp sword with which to smite the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; he will tread the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty." — Rev. 19:15. So, clearly, Yahweh, our Father is capable of anger. Anger is not something we project upon God as if He did not possess this capacity. Believe me, God is more than capable of anger. He is the author of it. It is the Universalists who want to deny that He is capable of it. I suspect there is a selfish motivation here. Obviously, those who are guilty of various sins would like to promote a doctrine which absolves them of these various sins. That is exactly what Universalism is. They teach that God does not punish sinners. This is beneath His dignity, so they say. Wishful thinking, my dear Watson! True Christians, on the other hand, understand that sin must be punished. Otherwise, there is no justice. Would it not be extremely unjust for an axe-murderer to go to the promised land after having murdered fifty people while Joe Shmoe has struggled mightily all his life to provide for his family, pay his debts, and not molest anyone? The Universalists tell us that neither one of these will be punished at the Judgment Day. They do not believe in a Judgment Day. They only believe in a God who does not hold us accountable for our actions. This teaching is a damnable lie. Read from the 4th Chapter of Jeremiah: What part of "I have spoken and will not relent" is so hard to understand? Yahweh is telling us that there will be a Judgment Day; and no amount of griping on our part is going to prevent it. Get used to the idea, children. This evil world is going to meet its judgment; and those who are least desirous of judgment will be its foremost victims, no matter how much they wish to deny it. In other words, JUSTICE will prevail! The wicked will receive their recompense and the good will receive their reward. Would you have it any other way? How would you like it if the evil ones got off Scot free? I wouldn't like it! I would call God unjust if this happened. So get ready. Because it's coming. For those Christians who have accepted the Universalist deception in all of its seductive allure, I can only quote from Hippolytus, one of the early Church fathers. In describing their ultimate realization that they have been deceived by the Anti-Christ, he says that they will say to themselves, after realizing that they have been condemned for their failure to understand the warnings: "We have heard the Scriptures and understood them not." You see, Christianity is not a feeling. Christianity is a lifestyle, a practice, a commitment. The feel-good heresy of Universalism will be the undoing of many a God-fearing Christian who, nevertheless, has been deceived and realized it not. |
